Wine in Yountville
Yountville is home to, or close neighbor of, some of the most outstanding wineries in California. It even has its own appellation. Wines made from grapes grown within a specific 8,260-acre area surrounding Yountville are entitled to bear the "Yountville" designation on their label.

Entrance to Domaine Chandon
Domaine Chandon is owned by Moë et Chandon, and its sparkling wines are superb. It also offers an excellent tour, giving you a chance to see how sparkling wine is made, which is a quite different process from the "still" wines made in most other Napa Valley wineries (although Chandon is starting to produce some still wines).

Goosecross also offers an excellent "Wine Crash Course", a 90-minute wine class held on Saturday mornings in late summer and early fall. In this free class you'll learn about tasting techniques, the structure and components of wine, winemaking styles, wine jargon, serving and storing wine and much more. We took the class and enjoyed it a lot. Contact the winery for schedule and reservations.

A small family (actually two families) winery run by a close-knit group of friends who have been producing award-winning wines since 1984. Their Carneros Syrah is exceptional. They're the only winery in the valley to produce an Albariño, grown from that unique white grape originally from Spain and Portugual. Tastings and tours are by appointment, and the winery is open for retail sales throughout the week. Also Merlot, Syrah, Bourriquot, Cabernet Franc.

American Regional - Plates $7-$12 each
The Nord Family has opened a wine tasting/small plate restaurant on the site of the legendary Diner, which has now passed into history. Wine Garden is a casual, family-friendly place surrounded by over an acre of gardens, perfect for picnicking or a stroll. The gardens are open to the public from 11 am to dusk, and you can order a picnic lunch for the gardens or to take somewhere else in the valley.
Wine Garden offers everything from Hog Island Sweetwater Oysters to Maine Crab Tortelloni to Molasses Glazed Pork Belly with White Corn Johnny Cake. Don't forget the Buttermilk Milkshakes topped with Vanilla Chantilly & Brandied Cherries. The food is paired with wines from a list of more than fifty, all from grapes grown by the Nord Family.
Wine tasting at the bar matches flights of wines with bite-sized samples from some of their favorite menu items, a much more interesting companion than wine crackers. You can also do a food tasting, comparing, for example, various cheeses, chocolates, ice creams or types of salmon.
